First, all ‘documents’ in general are “less preferred” by screen readers and a standardized static web page is always the most compliant option. That said, we understand the place Google docs have in all organizations. The ease of creation, sharing, and organizing makes it an invaluable tool. SchoolStatus also has a widget that will instantly pull a folder of documents out to your web page. We lean towards the Google document because of this. However, if a comparable PDF were authored in the same fashion, keeping the layout simple, minding Heading semantics, adding ALT text to embedded images, either should be fine. The biggest challenge facing schools right now is the sheer number of existing PDF’s that need to be evaluated and fixed, or just trashed, and recreated in a more compliant manner.
